-
- Of course, but the one bit is often ignored.
-
- : Alpha Channel is rarely used on the clones for anything and why would

-
- Video. It allows you to overlay QTs or Mpeg.
- And image manipulation, where the the alpha is a must.
-
- : I dunno what machines
- : you are referring to which 'preferably' use 15-bit, but it has to be a very

-
- It's the applications who utalize this, and to my knowledge
- not many apps let you set green to 64.
-
- : Alpha Channel although nice for video apps is really not anything most normal
- : computer users even want to worry about.
-
- "Most normal computer users", yes.
- By this logic, even 16-bit graphics is an overkill.
- Tried a PlayStation lately? Many of the nifty effects in games
- such as Doom-II and Warhawk are only possible through the use
- of an alpha-channel.
-
- : LO> : I would definitely trade HAM8 for 16-bit :-)
-
- : LO> Not on the Amiga. It wouldn't be as effective.
-
- : Just think what having a 16-bit mode would mean... Workbench could run in
- : 16-bit (no HAM crap to worry about), Games, 3d programs, paint programs,
- : etcetera... most of these are at a loss if they have to use HAM8. 16-bit is
- : much more usefull and versatile.
-
- This might be so, but I don't think you fully comprehend what
- I just said: On the Amiga a 16-bit mode would be useless due
- to bandwidth limitations.
- This is exactly why C= had to implement Ham8.
- This does not, in any way, remove the potential usefullness of
- Ham on clones and Macs though.
-
- : HAM8 is nice for displaying stills but for
- : anything else it is useless.
-
- Not entirely, it's great for animation.
- Cheers...
